Field Visit of ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management Students to Kampung Flory

After visiting UGM PIAT for Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture class, Tuesday (18/05/22), 11 ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management (ASEAN MBA) students attended a field visit to Kampung Flory, located in Tridadi, Sleman, DIY. This visit was an outdoor activity from the Urban Planning and Management class accompanied by Lecturer Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T.

Sudihartono, the Founder of Kampung Flory, explained that this tourist destination was formed from the initiative of a village youth group called Taruna Tani in 2015. The focus of its activities is cultivating ornamental plants and horticulture, then developing again to increase the potential in the form of cultivation and education as a tourist village in the Sleman area. “Kampung Flory has been established for 7 years and is managed by the people here. This tourist spot is the idea of the surrounding community to change the existing resources, “explained Sudihartono.

During the visit, Sudihartono took the 11 students and lecturers around each area developed by the manager. The Taruna Tani Zone is an agricultural area that contains various ornamental plants, fruit trees, and culinary centers. Meanwhile, the Dewi Flory zone is a tourist village area that provides lodging services, outbound areas, the Bali Ndeso culinary center, and a coffee shop called Kopi Keceh. Kampung Flory primarily uses water because of its location close to the Bedog River.

The visit with ASEAN MBA students is expected to provide an overview of the implementation of Smart City for the Urban Planning and Management class. The existence of Natural Resources and Human Resources that are sustainable and implemented into Kampung Flory Tourism will improve the surrounding community’s economy sustainably.

Arumdari Nurgianti, one of the ASEAN MBA students from Indonesia, shared his impressions during his visit to Kampung Flory. “It turns out that there is still a green environment near urban areas, and it’s not just a matter of pollution. If we can work together to develop and maintain, the environment around urban areas has the potential to increase competitiveness through existing resources,” said Arum. The activity ended with a joint discussion on recommendations for Kampung Flory regarding waste management, the use of solar technology as renewable energy, urban farming, and community development training.
