Organizing one of the event series in commemorating the 6th Lustrum of MM FEB UGM on Sunday July 1, 2018, hundreds of alumni, lecturers, staffs, and students of MMSA FEB UGM had Fun Day in Yogyakarta campus.
The event was started with a nitilaku (historian trace) or recalling the history by walking from the present campus in Kaliurang street to FEB UGM building inside Bulaksumur area to look back the founding of MM FEB UGM 30 years ago. It was officially inaugurated by releasing 30 birds as a symbol of 30 years journey for MM FEB UGM.
The participants of nitilaku was accompanied by Dolalak dancers from Tari Dolalak Kaligesing Purworejo studio and a fruit and vegetable gunungan (mountain shaped) which was brought marching in parade.
The Dean of FEB UGM, Dr. Eko Suwardi, M.Sc., stated that the release of 30 birds marked the 30 years of MM FEB UGM in becoming the best business school in Indonesia, which had been internationally accreditted by AACSB in 2014. “The release of these birds also pushes the commitment of sustainability and preservation of enviroment in sustainability management which will be the upcoming project of MMUGM,” said the Dean.
In a press release, the Director of MM FEB UGM Yogyakarta, Dr. Hani Handoko, M.B.A., mentioned that the study program was established on July 2, 1988. It was Faculty of Economy, known as Faculty of Economics and Business recently, which was trusted to carry out the mandate from the Ministry of Education to fulfill the necessity of postgraduate education in management. “We started with 40 students only, and now we serve more than 2 thousand active students in total for Yogyakarta and Jakarta campus as well as over 11 thousand alumni,” he said.
In line with the statement, the Director of MM FEB UGM Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Eduardus Tandelilin, M.B.A., stated that the idea of founding MM FEB UGM Jakarta was to give further contribution in postgraduate education for Indonesia. “The centre of Indonesian business is in Jakarta. So, we believe in the effort to contribute in developing professionals in management by approaching them with our presence in Jakarta,” he claimed. He added that Jakarta campus had been operating for 20 years, or 10 years after the Yogyakarta campus founded. He recalled the challenge and struggle in the past.
Finishing the nitilaku marching parade, the participants of Fun Day enjoyed their breakfast together in a dahar kembul tradition which was continued with garebeg procession for the fruit and vegetable gunungan. The participants were invited to enliven the event by participating in several games. Live music from MMSA Band and distribution of doorprizes completed the excitement of the event. Also, MM FEB UGM announced the award for some staffs. The appreciation of 30 years contribution was given to R. Bambang Sunaryo, S.I.P and Wijaya Sudaryanta, S.E. from Yogyakarta campus as well as Choiru Zaad, S.E. and Tunjung Damayanti, B.A. from Wisma MMUGM. On the other hand, the appreciation for Employee of the Year was given to Samidi, Poniman, and Hadi Suharso from Yogyakarta campus; Eko Sasmito, Mulyono, and Dadah Kusnandar from Jakarta campus; and Gandung Iswadi, Suharyanto, and Dwi Agustin Ummi Kalsum from Wisma MMUGM.
