Field Visits and Guest Lecture at Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park

10 ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management (ASEAN MBA) students continued their field visit to the southern coastal area on Saturday (21/05). This activity was accompanied by a lecturer at the UGM Faculty of Geography, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muh Aris Marfai, S.Si., M.Sc., and Dr. Bachtiar Wahyu Mutaqin, S.Kel., M.Sc., a practical activity from the Marine Resources and Coastal Management (MRCM) class.

Marine Resources and Coastal Management includes not only conventional marine activities, such as fisheries and shipping, but also nature reserves and tourism, mining, and the development of aquaculture and offshore renewable energy sources. The intensity of the presence of marine resources and coastal use leads to an increasing need to understand and coordinate the spatial and temporal relationships between the ecological and economic dimensions of MRCM.

For this reason, this field visit focuses on the south coast area, which has various tourist attractions. This ASEAN MBA student visit started from Paragliding Hill, Parangtritis Beach, Parangkusumo Beach, Depok Beach and Gumuk Pasir. The lecturer describes, in general, the topography of the Parangtritis coastal area. It explains the topography and the economic potential that can be developed in the area. It focuses on the south coast area, which has various tourist attractions. The lecturer describes, in general, the topography of the Parangtritis coastal area. Not only explaining the topography but also the economic potential that can be developed in the area.

Putri Messisarah, S.Si., M.Sc., the Head of Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park, is a guest lecturer on this visit. Putri explained the Sand Dunes ecosystem and how it changes every year. Information and history about Gumuk Pasir are also shown in full in the introductory video. Through this visit, students are expected to be able to identify the potential of marine resources and explore various management models and discuss case studies of governance and conflicts in the use of marine and coastal resources in ASEAN.

Zulfadila Hira Permana, one of the ASEAN MBA students from Indonesia, shared her impressions during the visit. “Rejuvenated, because previously it was explained in theory in class, and this time we can see, for example, the typology of the beach, how the continuity between rivers flows, and the contours of the hills with the shoreline.
