MBA FEB UGM successfully held Executive Series on “Strategic Excellence in Building Indonesia’s Leading Securities Firm” with Tomi Taufan

The Master of Business Administration program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), held another installment of its Executive Series on Friday, November 8, 2024, titled “Strategic Excellence in Building Indonesia’s Leading Securities Firm.” The event took place at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium on UGM’s Yogyakarta campus and featured Tomi Taufan, Director of Retail Business and Research at Mirae Asset Sekuritas, as the keynote speaker. This series is part of the LEAP program aimed at fostering industry insights among MBA students.

The session focused on the vast potential and transformative opportunities within Indonesia’s capital markets. Tomi highlighted that despite its growth, only a small fraction of Indonesia’s population actively participates in the stock market, presenting both challenges and opportunities for securities firms. He emphasized that with the right strategies, these firms can attract a larger base of new investors, encouraging the public to view capital markets as accessible and attractive investment options.

Tomi further elaborated on the importance of democratizing access to capital markets. He advocated for equal investment opportunities across all segments of Indonesian society, from students and employees to executives and retirees, regardless of their geographical or social standing. Mirae Asset, one of Indonesia’s leading securities firms, has expanded its network to 47 locations nationwide, focusing on inclusive services that cater to client needs. This commitment aims to broaden market access and actively engage more participants.

“Capital market democratization means that wherever Indonesians are, they should have equal rights to enjoy capital market products, whether they are students, employees, executives, or retirees,” Tomi stated.

Looking ahead, Tomi stressed that digital transformation will be crucial for boosting productivity and efficiency in the securities sector. Mirae Asset, in particular, is focusing on leveraging technology-based business models to navigate future market challenges. He also emphasized the need for long-term strategic planning to ensure competitiveness over the next 5 to 10 years, securing business sustainability amidst market shifts.

The Executive Series concluded with the inauguration of the Gallery Capital Market Lab located in the MBA FEB UGM Library.
