Bank Indonesia Joins Executive Series as a Leading Digital Central Bank

Master of Business Administration Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), Yogyakarta Campus, successfully hosted the Executive Series on Friday, March 14, 2025. The event was held at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium and featured the theme “Digitalization of Indonesia’s Payment System: Opportunities, Challenges, Regulator’s Role, and Consumer Protection.” The session welcomed Ibrahim, Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), as the keynote speaker, with Jovita Angela, S.Si., M.Sc., serving as the moderator.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com., Ak., CA., Dean of FEB UGM. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the relevance of the topic in today’s digital era. “I believe this is a highly relevant topic considering the increasing cases of digital fraud. Many students and even faculty members fall victim to scams or fail to recognize that some of their transactions are fraudulent, leading to significant losses,” he stated.

In the modern era, digital payments have become a more efficient means of conducting transactions. The use of electronic money simplifies the process for users, providing speed and security. Bank Indonesia plays a crucial role in ensuring fast and safe services for consumers in this digital landscape. Ibrahim elaborated on Bank Indonesia’s commitment to consumer service in the digital age, saying, “We uphold a vision and mission to be a leading Digital Central Bank. In today’s digital era, we must be smart and accustomed to using digital facilities,” he remarked.

Ibrahim also highlighted the highly competitive recruitment process for those aspiring to join Bank Indonesia and encouraged MBA FEB UGM students to take advantage of the session to expand their knowledge. “The competition is getting tougher, so please consider this material as part of your engagement and an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of Bank Indonesia’s roles and responsibilities,” he added.

Additionally, Yunia Artandhany Pamungkas, an analyst in the Payment System Policy Implementation and Supervision Team at Bank Indonesia DIY, discussed consumer protection efforts provided by Bank Indonesia. She introduced the Geber (Gerakan Bersama Perlindungan Konsumen) initiative, which was launched in 2023 in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK). “Bank Indonesia has a consumer protection tagline launched last year, in collaboration with OJK under the PEKA program. PEKA stands for Peduli (Care), Kenali (Recognize), and Adukan (Report),” Yunia explained.

Before concluding, a Q&A session allowed MBA FEB UGM students to directly engage with Bank Indonesia representatives. The event wrapped up with an enthusiastic quiz session hosted by Bank Indonesia, where students had the opportunity to win prizes.
