Industrial Visit to Palem Craft Opens Opportunities for Students to Explore the Global Creative Industry!

The Operations Club of the Master of Business Administration Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), organized an exclusive industrial visit to Palem Craft, Yogyakarta, on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

According to the official website palemcraft.com, Palem Craft was established in 2003 and is based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is a creative industry that focuses on the design and production of environmentally friendly and sustainable home décor products. In collaboration with local artisans, Palem Craft uses natural and often underutilized waste materials to craft its products. The company aims to deliver customer satisfaction through unique, aesthetically pleasing, and high-quality designs. Today, Palem Craft products are not only marketed domestically but also exported to various countries including France, Belgium, Spain, Dubai, Lebanon, Singapore, Australia, South Africa, and many others.

The event was opened by Darul Ghufron, Chair of the Operations Club MBA FEB UGM, who invited the students to explore Palem Craft’s product display. “Feel free to ask questions and take full advantage of this opportunity to learn directly from the industry,” Darul encouraged.

Deddy Effendy Anakottapary, S.T., founder of Palem Craft, shared his vision and challenges in managing the business:
“Our focus is on how we can develop natural Indonesian fibers—how we can design and conceptualize them so that Palem Craft’s products can compete in the global market,” said Deddy.

Following the opening remarks, students were taken on a guided tour through the production process, where they observed firsthand how Palem Craft products are made. The visit offered valuable insight into the creative industry and presented opportunities to enhance students’ skills, expand career perspectives, and build professional networks.

The industrial visit concluded with an enthusiastic Q&A session between the MBA students and the owner of Palem Craft. The entire program was successfully held, and it is hoped that this visit brought new knowledge and meaningful experiences to all participants in understanding the creative industry landscape.
