Banking Practitioners Discuss Sustainable Finance at MBA FEB UGM Executive Series

The Master of Business Administration Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM) Yogyakarta Campus, hosted an Executive Series event on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium, MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta. This event is part of the Leadership Enhancement and Acceleration Program (LEAP), designed to provide students with first-hand insights from industry leaders.

The event was opened by Prof. Amin Wibowo, Ph.D., Director of the MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta Campus. In his remarks, Prof. Wibowo emphasized the importance of students not only mastering strategic concepts but also applying them in practice. He stated, “Sustainability is a critical issue in today’s business world. I hope students take this opportunity to delve into the knowledge shared by the speakers and apply it in their future careers.”

The keynote speaker for this Executive Series was Eko Taufik Wibowo, Executive Director of the Indonesian Bankers Association (IBI). In his presentation, he stressed the importance of sustainable finance implementation in the banking sector. He stated, “Recently, the banking industry has faced challenges regarding zero-emission regulations. In Indonesia, implementing such measures is particularly challenging, as all industries will grapple with environmental issues. Therefore, the banking sector plays a crucial role in ensuring the ecosystem remains intact and unperturbed by supporting sustainability initiatives and adhering to stringent environmental regulations.”

The first speaker, Bob T. Ananta, Board Member of IBI and Deputy Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk., emphasized that every bank must develop financial strategies aligned with the Sustainable Finance Action Plan (RAKB). The second speaker, Saut Parulian Saragih, SEVP of Digital Banking at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk., reinforced this view, adding, “In addressing sustainability challenges, it is crucial to collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including the industrial sector, the government, and society, to achieve comprehensive and effective solutions.”

High enthusiasm was evident from the attending students, who actively asked in-depth questions related to the discussed topics and showed great interest in sustainable finance. This event not only broadened the students’ perspectives but also strengthened partnerships between academia and practitioners in financial management.
This Executive Series added immense value to MBA FEB UGM students, helping them prepare to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive professional world with insights and knowledge from industry leaders.
