The main agenda of celebrating the 30th Anniversary for MM FEB UGM was the Anniversary Ceremony. Opened by Golek Asmarandana traditional Javanese dance from staffs, students, and alumni of MM FEB UGM, the event was continued with speeches from the Director of MM FEB UGM Yogyakarta, Dr. T. Hani Handoko, M.B.A., the Dean of FEB UGM, Dr. Eko Suwardi, M.Sc., and the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng.
Taking place on July 2, 2018 in Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium, the Anniversary Ceremony brought the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of Indonesia, Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Ak., who gave his scientific oration in front of alumni, lecturers, staffs, and students of MM FEB UGM. He mentioned that innovation was the key point to elevate the competitiveness of economy in a country. “The winning country is not a country which has the largest population or the most resources, instead the one which posses many innovations,” said Nasir in his scientific oration.
He said that the competitiveness index of Indonesia was still very low. “Based on Global Competiveness Index (CGI) 2017, we are in rank 36 out of 137 countries. Singapore is on 3rd place, Malaysia gets 23rd position, and Thailand takes rank 32. Indonesia on rank 36 is terrible,” he spoke.
Nasir wished MM FEB UGM to keep on innovating and omitting the old fashioned system in educating and preparing their alumni in the disruption era. On the other hand, the students were asked to be ready and make use of the opportunities in the massive technology development.
At the end of the event, the Minister launched the 4th Business Case Book and did a ceremonial tumpeng rice slicing ritual to officially commemorate the 6th Lustrum of MM FEB UGM.
