Today’s Economic seminar was held by Virtufest 3.0 and MBA Student Association FEB UGM as the parent-student organization of students club in MM FEB UGM by presenting some of the speakers, such as Jerry Sambuaga, the Deputy Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Nilamsari Sahadewa, the CEO of PT. Baba Rafi Indonesia and PT. Sari Kreasi Boga, and Julio Halim the Founder of Komunitas Bisa Ekspor with moderator by Patricia Mapaliey, and attended by the students and alumni of MM FEB UGM Yogyakarta and Jakarta Campus through zoom on Sunday (21-11-2021).
The Director of MBA FEB UGM, Amin Wibowo, Ph.D. thanked all the speakers who attended this event, and also the alumni, students, and all the committees who were perfectly managing this event. From this event, expect to inspire the students to follow the success of the keynote speakers in professionalism. “Happy seminar, so many things that you can learn from this seminar”, said Amin.
Nilamsari, as the first speaker is the CEO of PT. Baba Rafi Indonesia and PT. Sari Kreasi Boga narrated that Baba Rafi established in 2003, started from selling some burgers, which in its development getting another product competitor, namely kebab. By the concept of affordable price, in 2009, Baba Rafi opened an outlet in Malaysia, Singapura, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, China, and some other countries. In the business system, Baba Rafi used several points of view, “We always apply the funneling in marketing, and the concept is easy, through awareness, interest, consideration, evaluation, decision, purchase, repeat, loyalty, and advocacy”, explained Nilam.
Julio Halim as the second speaker who is the Founder of Komunitas Bisa Ekspor explained the opportunities for Indonesian commodities to be brought to the international market. Starting from 2016 Julio already has two startup companies engaged in the export world, namely Piniship and Bisa Ekspor, with the products being exported are coconut-derived and also providing his experience with various problems in the export world. “We are innovating to create a marketplace application concept for export services through the shipping world and invite consumers to use their services easily just by logging into our platform,” continued Julio.
As the third speaker, Jerry Sambuaga, the Deputy Minister of Trade, explained the trends and prospects of trade in the pandemic era. “When viewed from the trade balance surplus, the value of our exports is higher than the value of imports, which is USD 30.81, the highest in the last 10 years thanks to the hard work of all parties, all across ministries, provinces, and municipalities,” he said. Jerry explained the trade policy strategies in the vuca era, namely maintaining export markets and primary products, export penetration to non-traditional markets, focusing on export-oriented MSMEs, accelerating the digital transformation of MSMEs, and utilizing trade agreements so that Indonesian products can be more competitive in the global market.
Jerry continued that many non-oil and gas products that are Indonesia’s mainstays experienced the highest growth, such as nickel and palm oil, and should be concerned about how Indonesian products are accepted abroad, concluded Jerry, ending his presentation with a question and answer session.
