Building Indonesia’s Human Capital Readiness through the National Human Capital Symposium

JAKARTA, 3 August 2023 — The Alumni Family of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Master of Management Study Program (KAFEGAMA MM) and MBA FEB UGM have successfully held the National Symposium on Human Capital, gathering 173 participants from senior Human Capital practitioners and executives from private, multinational, and private companies. And state-owned companies. This event commemorated the 7th Lustrum MBA FEB UGM (35 years) and the 68th Anniversary of FEB UGM on August 3, 2023, at the Grand Ballroom, JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta.

With the theme “Towards the Digital and Sustainable Future: Human Capital Imperatives,” this symposium opened with a keynote speech from the Minister of Manpower, Dr. Hj. Ida Fauziyah, M.Sc. The Minister of Manpower conveyed the opportunity for a demographic bonus in Indonesia and government policy breakthroughs. The second keynote speech was delivered by Agus Winardono, Director of Human Capital BRI, who explained about talent development at BRI.

Expert panelists enrich the discussion with specific experiences and insights. Yunus Triyonggo emphasized the importance of upskilling and reskilling in the era of digital technology. Herdy Harman shared experiences regarding changing mindsets in HR management in the tourism ecosystem. Mark Teoh presented the Deloitte Workforce Sustainability Framework as an answer to sustainability challenges.

The discussion session with the participants was followed by a special session led by Sari Sitalaksmi, Ph.D. In this session, strategic imperatives were formulated to determine the direction of human resource management in Indonesia. Among these imperatives is that Human Capital is a concern of all business lines, not limited to the human resources division alone. Second, Human Capital must move to become an enabler in preparing future talent. Third, it is necessary to strengthen collaboration between industry, universities, and government in accelerating the transition towards a digital future-oriented towards sustainability. The participants’ enthusiasm reflects a shared commitment to facing challenges and opportunities in the field of Human Capital.

The success of this event is an essential milestone in developing sustainable human potential in Indonesia. This event reflects the importance of the topics discussed and confirms the commitment of KAFEGAMA MM and MBA FEB UGM to supporting superior Human Capital in Indonesia.
