Table Manner Training: Shaping the Professional Character of MBA FEB UGM Students

The Master of Business Administration Program Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), once again held a Table Manner training as part of its efforts to develop students’ soft skills and professionalism. The activity took place at Platinum Hotel Yogyakarta on 14 October 2025, aimed at equipping students of MBA-IMBA 86 with proper etiquette for formal dining and professional settings.

The event was guided by Hering Tri Ambarsari, an Account Manager who served as Master of Ceremony (MC), creating a warm and interactive atmosphere throughout the program. The table manner training was delivered by two professional speakers, Andika Fajar, Restaurant & Banquet Manager, and John Tiolemba, Executive Chef. Both provided hands-on guidance on proper dining etiquette and protocols for formal banquets.

Students were taught various essential aspects, including proper sitting posture, the correct use of tableware from appetizers to desserts, appropriate napkin etiquette, and overall manners at the dining table. The trainers also emphasized the importance of table manners as a reflection of one’s personality and professionalism in the business world. “Dining etiquette is not only about how to use a spoon and fork, but also about how we show respect to others at the same table,” said Andika Fajar during one of the sessions.

The activity was conducted with great enthusiasm, with students actively asking questions and participating in simulations led by the trainers. This training is expected to boost the confidence of MBA FEB UGM students when facing professional situations such as business dinners, conferences, and diplomatic meetings.

The event concluded with a group photo session to acknowledge the active participation of all attendees. The Table Manner training reflects MBA FEB UGM’s commitment to preparing future leaders who are not only academically competent but also ethical and well-mannered in professional environments.
