The MBA Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to creating a safe, comfortable, and sustainable campus environment by adding 10 new infiltration wells across the MBA FEB UGM area, bringing the total number to 43. This initiative represents a proactive step to increase water absorption capacity, particularly ahead of the rainy season, thereby minimizing the risk of water pooling and slippery surfaces in the plaza area.
“We store rainwater so that it does not flow out of the area, thereby helping reduce the potential for flooding around the MBA FEB UGM vicinity,” said Prof. Didi Achjari, M.Com, Dean of FEB UGM.
The project, which took place over the course of one week from Thursday, November 27 to December 4, 2025, was carried out by an experienced field team consisting of eight workers. Despite facing challenges due to soil conditions containing large rocks in several locations, the team maintained strong dedication and precision to ensure the quality of the work remained optimal.
“Under normal soil conditions, the excavation process could be completed much faster. However, we remain committed to delivering the best results even when the soil conditions are more challenging,” said Pak Parman, the field team supervisor.
After the excavation and installation of concrete well rings, the infiltration wells were connected through pipes that regulate water flow, allowing each well to function simultaneously in absorbing rainwater. The final stage involved covering the top section as both a marker and a safety measure to indicate the presence of infiltration wells at those points, ensuring the safety of plaza users.
The development of these infiltration wells not only strengthens the campus’s environmental infrastructure but also serves as tangible evidence of MBA FEB UGM’s concern for the comfort and safety of its academic community. By increasing water absorption capacity, the initiative helps reduce the risk of water pooling and slippery surfaces during heavy rainfall. As a result, the daily activities of students, lecturers, and administrative staff are expected to proceed more safely without disruption during rainy conditions.
Through this project, MBA FEB UGM once again reaffirms its commitment to sustainable, modern, and safety-oriented campus environmental management for the benefit of all campus facility users.
