Mini Seminar on Sustainability Tourism, Part of Cross-Cultural and Academic Collaboration MBA FEB UGM

The Master of Business Administration Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), Yogyakarta Campus, held a mini seminar titled “Sustainability Tourism: Cases of Yogyakarta/Borobudur” on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Classroom 406, 4th Floor, MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta. The event featured Yulia Arisnani Widyaningsih, M.B.A., Ph.D. (lecturer at MBA FEB UGM) as the keynote speaker, Rocky Adiguna, Ph.D., as the Board of Directors of MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta Campus. The event was made even more special by the participation of delegates from Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS), including Dr. Dalila Salazar Morningstar and MBA students from LSUS, as part of an ongoing cross-cultural and academic collaboration.

The discussion focused on the positive developments in tourism across the Borobudur, Prambanan, and Yogyakarta regions. Dr. Yulia emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in preserving tourism sustainability. However, challenges remain, particularly regarding public awareness and participation. Active involvement from youth and academic institutions is crucial in fostering a sense of ownership, enhancing visitor value and experience, and improving the quality of life for both local communities and tourists.

This mini-seminar served as an open forum for students concerned with sustainability and the development of socially and environmentally grounded tourism destinations. Beyond academic discourse, the seminar aimed to foster collective awareness and responsibility, particularly among younger generations and higher education institutions, in building inclusive and sustainable tourism destinations. It also sought to broaden students’ perspectives and sensitivity toward sustainability issues, especially within the tourism sector.
