The International Academic Exposure (IAE) program is one of the opportunities for MBA FEB UGM Jakarta Campus students to broaden their horizons, expand their networks, and develop their leadership potential. This experience was felt firsthand by Permata Maulidhina Yuldi, a student of IEMBA 19 MBA FEB UGM Jakarta Campus, who took part in the EXCEL Programme at Singapore Management University (SMU).
The short program, held from 11–15 May 2026, focused on the topics of Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior, and Leadership Communication. Although it only lasted a few days, the experience provided many valuable lessons. For Permata, the most memorable experience was the opportunity to learn together with students from various countries. As the only participant from Indonesia in the class, she felt how the international environment was able to open up new perspectives while also building her self-confidence.
“The learning activities were made very interactive. We didn’t just have discussions, but also learned through films, group games, and even Lego-building activities to understand the concepts of leadership and collaboration,” she said.
Interacting with students across cultures was both a challenge and a valuable lesson in itself. She had to understand how to communicate effectively without disregarding the cultural sensitivities of each participant.
According to her, the learning system at SMU offered a different experience compared to typical university classes. Academic material was presented creatively, encouraging students to actively participate, think critically, and build teamwork. From this experience, Permata gained a new understanding of leadership. “A leader is not only required to be able to lead others, but must also be able to lead themselves,” she said.
This experience also influenced her outlook on future career development. She has become more selective in evaluating opportunities, considering how far a given opportunity can help her continue to grow. Permata also encouraged other students not to hesitate to join similar programs. “Don’t be shy about making friends with students from different countries. We will gain new perspectives, expand our networks, and of course enjoy a truly valuable cultural experience,” she added.
Through the IAE program, MBA FEB UGM Jakarta Campus continues to encourage its students to become adaptive, confident leaders who understand global perspectives and are ready to face the increasingly dynamic challenges of the professional world.
