In commemoration of International Women’s Day, MBA FEB UGM Jakarta Campus once again held the Leadership Day 2025 event, carrying a highly relevant theme: “Championing Equality for All: Women in Business & Ushering in the Next Generation of Student Leadership.” This event not only served as a platform to reinforce the spirit of gender equality in the workplace but also functioned as a soft skills learning opportunity for MBA FEB UGM students from both Jakarta and Yogyakarta campuses.
The event was made even more special by the presence of Rosianna M. Silalahi, a senior journalist and the President Director of Kompas TV, who served as the keynote speaker. Rosi her familiar nickname brought valuable insights into the struggles women face in a world full of challenges and high risks.
In her talk, Rosianna M. Silalahi shared her experiences as a senior journalist who had to take significant risks in performing her job. She had been involved in covering major news stories, ranging from social issues to highly sensitive political conflicts. On many occasions, she faced threats—both physically and professionally. She consistently chose to carry out her duties with integrity. Her journey, though not always smooth, was marked by her ability to persevere and seize available opportunities. “Sometimes the chance is not given, you have to grab it! Self-drive, and it doesn’t matter whether you are a woman or not,” Rosianna emphasized (May 9, 2025).
As a journalist and now President Director of Kompas TV, Rosi stressed the importance of maintaining high-quality journalism while adapting to the changing media landscape. She also encouraged her team—especially the women—to take on leadership roles in the media business. Rosi discussed her efforts to support women in the workplace, including providing nursing rooms and allowing children in the office. She underscored the need for gender equality in management positions and encouraged both men and women to pave the way for future female leaders. Rosi also reflected on the challenges facing traditional media and the importance of efficient business processes to remain competitive.
