The Master of Business Administration Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM) welcomed students from the Master’s and Ph.D. programs of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia – Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB) on Friday, October 17, 2025. This visit was part of a sharing session and campus tour aimed at strengthening academic collaboration between business education institutions in the ASEAN region.
The visit began with a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Rocky Adiguna, Deputy Director of MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta Campus, titled “Managing Heritage and Innovation: Lessons Learned from Indonesia’s Tradition-Based Family Firms.” In his lecture, Dr. Rocky explained how several family businesses in Yogyakarta have thrived for up to five generations by integrating traditional values with innovation in their business management. He highlighted examples of local enterprises that successfully preserve cultural heritage while adapting to modern dynamics, such as technological advancements and changing consumer behavior.
The atmosphere became even more engaging during the discussion and Q&A session. UKM-GSB students showed great enthusiasm toward Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, particularly in understanding how local values influence business management and strategic decision-making. Through this dialogue, participants not only gained insight into the Indonesian business context but also discovered many shared values with family business practices in Malaysia.
The event concluded with a group photo session as a symbol of friendship and cross-border collaboration, followed by a campus tour introducing MBA FEB UGM’s learning environment. Participants also enjoyed a communal lunch and performed Friday prayers on campus. This visit is expected to mark the beginning of strengthened academic cooperation and knowledge exchange between MBA FEB UGM and UKM-GSB in the future.
