Leadership Communication Guest Lecture Highlights the Importance of Public Speaking in the Business World

The Leadership Communication course, taught by Risa Virgosita, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., hosted a guest lecture featuring Ferry Anggara, a master of ceremonies, television presenter, and news anchor, on Friday, May 25, 2026, at the MBA FEB UGM Building. The session brought a communication professional into the classroom to provide students with practical insights into the importance of public speaking in business and professional settings.

During the session, Ferry Anggara shared his experiences and perspectives on why public speaking is an essential skill for students, particularly those preparing for careers in business. He explained that effective public speaking not only helps students communicate with greater confidence during their studies but also serves as a valuable asset when they enter the professional world.

The class was highly interactive and engaging. Through a series of case studies, students were encouraged to participate actively in discussions, express their viewpoints, and develop well-reasoned arguments. This hands-on approach created a dynamic learning environment while strengthening students’ ability to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.

Through this guest lecture, students gained not only a deeper theoretical understanding of leadership communication but also practical insights from an experienced public communication professional. The involvement of industry practitioners in the classroom is expected to broaden students’ perspectives and better prepare them for the communication challenges they will encounter in their professional careers.
