MBA FEB UGM Students Win Best Paper Award at GAMAICEB 2025

Two students from the Master of Business Administration program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (MBA FEB UGM), Aghnan Yarits Anggara and Muhammad Aldi Malik Syahputra, won the best paper award at the prestigious 13th Gadjah Mada International Conference on Economics and Business (GAMAICEB). The conference was held at the FEB UGM Campus in Yogyakarta on July 23-25, 2025.

At the conference, Aghnan and Aldi presented a paper titled “The Impact of Domestic Tourism on Gender Equality: Evidence from Employment, Health, and Empowerment in Indonesia.” This paper examines the relationship between domestic tourism and the improvement of gender equality in Indonesia, through indicators of employment, health, and women’s empowerment. This research is considered to have an important contribution in understanding the dynamics of inclusive economics and sustainable development.

This award is proof that MBA FEB UGM students are not only active in academic activities, but also able to compete scientifically in international forums.

Rocky Adiguna, Ph.D., Secretary of the MBA FEB UGM Program, expressed his appreciation and pride in this achievement. “This award demonstrates the academic quality of our students. We hope this success will motivate other students to be active in research and scientific publications,” he said.

Aghnan expressed his gratitude and reflections on this achievement. “I never expected that our research on the role of tourists in promoting gender equality would receive such recognition. This award further convinces me that social impact can arise from things that are close to our daily lives, including through tourism,” he said.

Aghnan also hoped, “Hopefully, these findings can open up new discussions towards more inclusive and equitable tourism. Not only providing economic benefits through employment opportunities, but also encouraging improvements in job quality, health, education, and women’s participation in politics,” he said.

GAMAICEB is an annual international conference organized by FEB UGM and serves as a forum for collaboration between academics, practitioners, and researchers from various countries in the fields of economics and business.
