The Master of Business Administration Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), welcomed 20 students of the third cohort of the ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management during the new student opening activities on August 7, 2026. The students joined the Executive Series alongside approximately 400 MBA FEB UGM students, marking the beginning of their studies in August 2026.
ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management is a double degree master’s program jointly offered by UGM and the School of Business and Law, University of Agder (UiA), Norway. Entering its third cohort, the program is fully funded by a scholarship from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims to equip students with the knowledge and competencies needed to address sustainability challenges and promote responsible business practices.
The opening activities, held from August 7 to 15, 2026, also featured Bjørn-Tore Flåten from the School of Business and Law, University of Agder, and Beathe Øgård from the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta. Their participation further strengthened collaboration between Norway and ASEAN, particularly in the areas of education, sustainability, innovation, and responsible leadership.
The program runs for 18 months, with students undertaking their studies in both Indonesia and Norway. Upon completion, students will receive degrees from both UGM and UiA. Several UiA academics will contribute to teaching and thesis supervision, while in autumn 2027, the ASEAN students will have the opportunity to travel to Norway to conduct their thesis research and undertake internships at various organizations across the country.
The collaboration between UGM and UiA is part of an academic partnership that has spanned more than 30 years. The support of the Norwegian Embassy in Indonesia also reflects the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, or “Unity in Diversity.” The diverse backgrounds, nationalities, and perspectives represented by the students create opportunities to foster mutual understanding and develop ideas and solutions with broader impact.
The presence of the third cohort of ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management students further enriches the MBA FEB UGM learning environment through cross-cultural interaction and diverse perspectives. Through this collaboration, the program is expected to contribute to developing future leaders who can deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for the business world and society.
With the commencement of the third cohort of ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management, MBA FEB UGM continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering a multicultural and globally oriented learning environment. The program is expected to contribute to developing future leaders capable of delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to address business challenges at both regional and global levels.
