Toward Sustainable Industry: MBA FEB UGM Explores Strategies for Industrial Estate Management

The Master of Business Administration Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), held another session of its Executive Series on Friday, April 24, 2026. The event, which was mandatory for all MBA students, was conducted in a hybrid format at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium.

Carrying the theme “Global Strategies for Industrial Estate Management,” the event featured Ikhwanoel, Acting President Director of PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara, as the keynote speaker. The discussion was moderated by Boyke Rudy Purnomo, Ph.D., a faculty member at FEB UGM.

In his opening remarks, Luluk Lusiantoro, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Deputy Director of MBA FEB UGM Yogyakarta Campus, emphasized the importance of strengthening students’ engagement with industry.

“We hope this event helps students become more connected with industry, enabling them to bridge the concepts and theories they learn in the classroom with real-world practice. This reflects our commitment to transforming knowledge into action.”

During the session, Ikhwanoel outlined Indonesia’s industrial development strategy, which focuses on eight priority sectors: agro-based industries, mining and mineral processing, basic industries, technology-intensive industries, labor-intensive industries, the blue economy and bioeconomy, creative industries, and industrial services. According to him, strengthening these sectors is essential to enhancing the country’s industrial value creation and global competitiveness.

He also highlighted the importance of developing integrated industrial estates, including through Special Economic Zones (SEZs) that prioritize innovation, research and development (R&D), and collaboration with academic institutions. In addition, the transition toward green industry was identified as a strategic priority, with efforts focused on developing sustainable and efficient manufacturing clusters.

From a long-term perspective, the development of industrial estates is intended to support sustainable economic growth and strengthen Indonesia’s global competitiveness. This vision encompasses several stages of development, including reinforcing industrial foundations, promoting innovation-driven growth, and advancing sustainable transformation through human capital development, industrial efficiency, and emissions reduction.

Ikhwanoel also presented the vision of PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara to become a one-stop integrated industrial and logistics hub in Southeast Asia. This vision is supported by the integration of industrial estate, logistics, and port services through an end-to-end ecosystem while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable operations.

The discussion session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which students explored topics ranging from implementation strategies and industrial estate management challenges to future development opportunities. Through the Executive Series, MBA FEB UGM continues to provide students with practical insights from industry leaders while strengthening their readiness to navigate the evolving global business landscape.
