Prof. Amin Wibowo, Ph.D. Officially Inaugurated as UGM Professor, Highlights Sustainable Leadership for Millennial and Gen Z Generations

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has officially inaugurated Prof. Amin Wibowo, Ph.D., Director of the Master of Business Administration Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM), as a Professor in the field of Leadership and Strategic Management. The inauguration ceremony was held during the Open Senate Session of UGM’s Academic Senate at the UGM Central Building, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey spanning more than two decades.

In his inaugural speech titled “Challenges in Building Sustainable Leadership among the Millennial and Gen Z Generations,” Prof. Amin highlighted the major shifts occurring in Indonesia’s leadership landscape. He explained that the growth of sustainable local enterprises, the increasing adoption of ethical business practices, and the shift in organizational orientation toward social and environmental responsibility present significant opportunities that should not be overlooked. According to him, modern leaders must be able to balance organizational performance with sustainability values in order to address future challenges.

Prof. Amin also emphasized that the Millennial and Gen Z generations are now emerging as key drivers of change. They bring renewed awareness of environmental responsibility, inclusivity, and collective well-being—values that must be integrated into organizational strategies.

“Millennial and Gen Z generations now dominate the workforce, bringing new values such as environmental awareness, inclusivity, and collective well-being. Leaders in this era are required to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into organizational strategies,” he stated.

Furthermore, he stressed that sustainable leadership requires transformation not only at the institutional level but also within individual leaders themselves.

“Leaders need to develop empathetic character, visionary thinking, and a systemic perspective in order to inspire and mobilize organizations toward positive change,” Prof. Amin explained.

During the occasion, Prof. Amin expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to his mentors, colleagues, and senior lecturers who have made significant contributions to his career journey. He also paid tribute to his family for their unwavering support.

“My deepest gratitude goes to my parents… whose support made it possible for me to become a professor,” he said. He also extended special thanks to his wife for her patience and support throughout various stages of his academic career.

At the end of his speech, Prof. Amin expressed his hope that he would be able to carry out his responsibilities as a Professor with dedication for the advancement of knowledge and society.

“May I fulfill this mandate as a Professor with enthusiasm, responsibility, sincerity, and devotion for our collective progress,” he concluded.

This inauguration marks a proud moment for the MBA FEB UGM community and further strengthens the institution’s commitment to developing business leaders who are competent, ethical, and oriented toward sustainability.
